Introduction
The Hong Kong Youth and Tertiary Students Association (HKYTSA) is a charitable group serving the students from tertiary institutes. It was established in 1993. In the past few years, the association has made great effort to serve all tertiary students and secondary students so as to increase their competitiveness, widen their view and develop their leadership.
In the past decade, Hong Kong has continued to thrive and prosper as a leading business and trading hub in Asia. However, this fact is not sufficient to guarantee our continued success. The new world demands new skills and new paradigms. To maintain our competitive edge, to stay ahead in the fast developing region and to strive to be Asia's World City, we need to constantly upgrade our English proficiency so that they can rise to the challenge in this rapidly changing world.
In face of the vast potential ahead of us, we need to better prepare our people, especially our younger generation, to be equipped with the capability to live up to the challenge of language use and to lead the community to climb the value chain. Therefore, if public English speaking can be promoted effectively among secondary students, the confidence of the students must be increased while their competitiveness is increased as well.
This year, the historical day July 1, 2007 is remarked as the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). HKYTSA will provide ample opportunities for students to enjoy the spirit of the 10th anniversary celebrations. With the topic of “The 10th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR)”, the Inter School English Speaking Contest 2007 present you the chance to review Hong Kong’s past challenges and successes, while looking forward to a bright and prosperous future.
Objectives

To promote the importance of effective public speaking of English;

To enhance students' language proficiency and presentation skills through training and competition;

To boost up self confidence of students and the interest of speaking English.
Topic:
“The 10th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR)”
Format
There are two sessions. 30 contestants will present the assigned topic at the first session. Any kinds of speaking formats are acceptable, like drama, role-play etc. Any props can be used during the speaking contest. The time limit is 5 minutes.
Five contestants only will enter the second session; they will draw a new topic and present it immediately within 2 minutes.
Target
F.4 to F.7 student. Each Principal or school can nominate only ONE student to be school representative.

Awards
$2500 scholarships for champion
$1500 and $1000 scholarships for 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-up respectively
